Quraan Journal

I received two daily planners as gifts, so I opted to turn one of them into a Quraan journal. The idea is to never let a day go by without reading, reflecting, reviewing the Quraan, its tafseer and other related sciences such as the rulings of Tajweed. Memorizing the Quraan and learning the Arabic Language go hand in hand, so I try to build my vocabulary as well – by Allaah’s Permission – when possible.

My Quraan Journal is not a book of future goals. I don’t jot down how much I wish to memorize in a day, how much I want to cover in a week or set unrealistic hifth deadlines. My journal is an actual reflection of what was covered day by day. It’s an actual reflection of me.

Some things noted in the journal:

• New tafseeri, hifthi and tajweedi vocabulary words.
• Related ‘Arabic vocabulary words (both lughtan and istilaahaan if possible).
• For every word learned, other words with the same meaning were written next to it.
• For every written sentence, there’s a second sentence written using different words with the same meanings.
• All entries are written in the ‘Arabic language as an incentive to build the vocabulary.
• The name of soorah currently being memorized and the number of completed aayaat.
• The name of a soorah and the number of times it was reviewed by memory or read from the mushaf.
• The name of a soorah or suwar listened to by way of cd’s, etc. as a form of maraaja’ah.
• Entries on making tasheeh and tatbeeq of suwar not yet memorized as a way of reviewing the rulings of Tajweed.
• Number of times aayaat were written down as a form of tasheeh.
• Benefits from class.
• Homework.

I pray this small efforts helps someone else as it has helped (and is still helping) me. Please don’t look at this as something major on my part as there are days when I skim through my journal and am not pleased as I could have done more. Allaah is Merciful. There are big rewards for reciting a mere letter of the Quraan, Walhamdulillaah.

We seek refuge in Allaah from throwing the Quraan behind our backs. May Allaah protect us from ghaflah, Allaahumma aameen.
